Solid vs. engineered - which fits a Gulf Coast home
Both are real wood. The difference is how the board is built - and around Houston's humidity and mostly slab-built subdivisions, that choice matters more than it does in a drier climate.
- Solid hardwood - 3/4" plank of 100% wood, nailed down, can be refinished 5-7 times over its lifetime. Best on plywood subfloors, which you'll find in some of the county's older, pier-and-beam homes.
- Engineered hardwood - real wood top layer on a stable plywood core. Doesn't expand or contract with humidity the way solid wood can. Best over concrete slab, which is how most newer Fort Bend County subdivisions are built.
- Wide planks (5"-7") - modern look, work in both solid and engineered constructions.
- Parquet patterns - chevron, herringbone, custom inlays - all available in solid or engineered.

Red and white oak account for about 70% of our installations - they're durable, take stain beautifully, and age gracefully. Maple offers a cleaner, more uniform grain. Hickory is the hardest domestic wood and great for active households. Walnut and cherry bring richer, darker tones for more formal rooms.
Stain options range from natural blonde and whitewashed to grey, fumed, and dark espresso. We bring sample boards to your home so you can see the actual stain on the actual wood in your actual light - not a print in a catalog.
Professional installation and refinishing
We install nail-down, glue-down, and floating hardwood depending on what your subfloor allows, and we acclimate every board on site before it goes down - a step that matters more here than in most parts of the country given how much Gulf Coast humidity swings by season. Every job includes moisture testing, subfloor leveling, baseboard removal and reinstall, and full disposal of old flooring. For existing hardwood that just needs new life, our refinishing crew offers dustless sanding, custom staining, and water-based polyurethane finishes that cure in days, not weeks.

Hardwood Flooring - frequently asked questions
If your home sits on a concrete slab - true for most newer construction in Katy, Richmond, and Sugar Land - engineered hardwood is almost always the right call. It stays flat through our humid summers where solid wood on a slab can cup or gap.
Most whole-home installs take 2 to 4 days. Refinishing existing hardwood adds another 3 to 5 days for sanding, staining, and finishing.
Engineered hardwood works beautifully in kitchens - the plywood core stays stable when humidity shifts. Basements are rare in this part of Texas, but the same logic applies to any below-grade or slab-adjacent room.
We bring sample boards in your wood species and color so we can match within a shade or two. If you want a perfect blend, we can refinish your existing hardwood at the same time so the whole floor reads as one.
